Perak Darul Ridzuan

PERAK
Perak is one of the 13 states of Malaysia. Perak is the second largest state in Peninsular Malaysia after Pahang and the second most developed state in Malaysia, behind Malaysia. It is located in borders of Kedah and the Thai Yala Province to the north, Penang to the northwest, Kelantan and Pahang to the east, Selangor to the south and the Straits of Malacca to the west. The state's administrative capital of Ipoh was known historically for tin-mining activities until the price of the metal dropped, severely affecting the state's economy. The royal capital, however remains at Kuala Kangsar, where the palace of the Sultan of Perak is located.
Perak is a state in Malaysia which is rich in tourist attractions. In addition, the unique caves and limestone hills that are around the country attract the tourists from other countries to come to Perak. The other attractions in Perak are like beaches, lakes, forest, islands, and historical sites. Here I want to suggest several place that must be visit.

1.   Pulau Pangkor / Pangkor Island

Pangkor island consists of nine islands but only two of then are inhabited which are Pulau Pangkor and Pangkor Laut.Pulau Pangkor is an island off the coast of Perak in north-west peninsular Malaysia, reached by ferry either from the old jetty or from Marina Island jetty both located in Lumut .

Pangkor in the old days was known as Dinding, which means 'screen' or 'partition'. This was in reference to the position of the island as it protects the mainland's estuary. For the locals the island is famous for the beaches such as Teluk Nipah, Coral Bay, Teluk Belanda and Pasir Bogak.

The most famous local product of the island is ikan bilis(anchovies) and other dried fish products that are irresistable to the locals. In the 60's and 70's , the name 'Pangkor' was synonymous with salted fish, ikan bilis produce, dried shrimps, shrimp paste etc. Kids grew up on 'Satay Fish' , a stinky but delicious snack made of barbequed and caramalised fish wafers.

Today, Pangkor Island is a popular island destination for local and Singapore holiday makers. It gets extremely busy during school and public holidays.

Besides the beautiful of the beach, there are several place that can be visited in Pangkor island:

  3. Menara Condong, Teluk Intan

The leaning tower of Teluk Intan is the Malaysia equivalent of the world famous Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. It is located in the centre of the town of Teluk Intan, Perak. The tower is slanted leftward, similar to the Tower of Pisa. It is 25.5 metres tall and, from the outside, looks like a 8 storey building, though inside it is actually divided into 3 storeys. The tower is located in the center of a square surrounded by Jalan Pasar, Jalan Selat, Jalan Bandar and Jalan Ah Cheong.

Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan or previously known as High clock built in 1885 for a water tank in the event of drought and also serves as a timer, "Time Keeper" urban Teluk Intan, Perak. It has also served as an indicator of the direction of the ship to Teluk Anson once. Originally, this building was built by architect vertically, Leong Choon Cheong but it began to tilt after a major flood occurred in 1889 and 1895.

The tower is located at the confluence of the rectangular plain, which is Jalan Pasar and Jalan Ah Cheong Street Road City Channel and the left and right of the tower. Compatible with over 100 years old, this historic building was hit by a wide range of memories of them are in 1889 and 1895 floods drown once the buildings, this event is the factor that causes the building and make it more unique slant.
